One Man Mormon Blues Band: Music
Nothing Will Ever Be The Same
(Gary McCallister (One Man Mormon Blues Band))
The tune for this song is based on "Amazing Grace", although I think it wanders off considerably. The original text for "Amazing Grace" was written by John Newton in the 1700's. But the tune is related to several different Scottish ballad forms from at least that early and probably earlier.
The title and refrain are loaded with meaning. Mary's life was certainly changed, as is then every woman's life changed forever when she bears a child. However, in this case, and with this child, the WORLD would never be the same again.
Dreamed a dream last night
Between dark and light
Filled my heart with fear
At what I had to hear
Why must this be
Why must it happen to me
Because the dream came
Nothing will ever be the same
I'm just a girl
Not a savior to the world
A righteous stand
I'll do what God commands
Why ask this of me
This place in history
Some say I'm to blame
Nothing will ever be the same
So odd to me
Continues to be
That things can change
When they are already arranged
There are moments in time
Line upon line
I have the same name
But nothing will ever be the same
All that you need
Is never all you heed
Every woman and man
Must heed God's command
I'm not the only one
Why this thing has been done
I still have my name
But nothing will ever be the same
