One Man Mormon Blues Band: Music

Little Mary

(Gary McCallister (One Man Mormon Blues Band))
Meet the little girl, Mary. I hope the fiddle and the rhythm of the song suggest a young girl skipping, maybe in slow motion, long before she knows anything about becoming a Mother to anyone - let alone the Savior of the world.

The tune is from an old song that I learned as a child called "My Lindy Lou". I have not been able to find out much about this song. I am not even sure where I learned it, I was so young. The original lyrics, as I recall, were simply a love song about a guy hanging around and thinking about his Lindy Lou.
Mary Do you smell that saffron in the sunlight
Mary It's smelling oh so honey-like
As you skip on down the road
Smiling with nowhere to go
Mary do you know do your see
Who you're going to be
Who you're going to be
My little Mary

Mary Did you play in the garden today
Mary Laughing as you ran away
Dark hair blowing in the breeze
Among the flowers and the honey bees
Mary do you know do your see
Who you're going to be
Who you're going to be
My little Mary

Mary Did you tend your brother today
Mary Did you make him laugh keep him safe
Tell him stories sing him to sleep
Just the way it's going to be
Mary do you know do your see
Who you're going to be
Who you're going to be
My little Mary

Mary Did you feel that breeze blow last night
Mary It was blowing so sweet in the moonlight
Blowing round your parents door
Keeping watch for the Lord
Mary do you know do your see
Who you're going to be
Who you're going to be
My little Mary
