One Man Mormon Blues Band: Music

Oh That I Were a Book

(One Man Mormon Blues Band)
My daughter inherited my weakness for reading and often spends a little too much time reading books. Her husband occasionally feels a little left out. One day, after he had gone to work she found a book mark in her book with a short poem about how, maybe if he were a book he’d get more attention. That was pretty humorous, but then she found another one in the medicine cabinet, the kitchen cupboard, the pantry, the brook closet, on the windshield of her car, etc. She decided maybe this was a sign of marital discontent. I thought it was such a funny story I tried to immortalize the event in song.
Oh that I were a book
Then perhaps you’d give me a second look
Oh but it’s plain to see
Plain to see you’d rather read

Oh that I were a book
Perhaps then I wouldn’t have to cook
I’d have your attention just for me
Instead of just me me would be we

Looked over her shoulder and what did I see
She’s on page nine of four hundred and thirty three

Oh that I were a book
Not might not have to play solitary Rook
Guess I’m glad it’s not a he
But just a book that you’d rather read
