Blood On the Field
(One Man Mormon Blues Band)
When I joined the LDS Church my parents disowned me and told me not to come home again. However, I was angry and didn't not handle the situation well. As a result we were estranged for a very long time. Eventually the rift was mended, thanks to my special wife. However, there was always a strain there. So often humans hurt one another in the name of pride and honor. There doesn't always have to be blood on the field.
So you made a mistake and broke their hearts
You thought to grow up you had to grow apart
You don’t have to do now what you did then
You don’t have to be what you have been
Would there still be honor if the opponent yields
Or does there have to be blood on the field
Well I thought I’d stay mostly the way you smiled
I thought I’d stay and I’ve hung around quite awhile
Now I’m wondering where you got that cold cold heart
And how to keep from tearing us apart
Would there still be honor if the opponent yields
Or does there have to be blood on the field
So you didn’t have time and you weren’t always kind
It’s the children who suffer throughout mankind
You want to try and make amends
You want to love them but you don’t know when
Would there still be honor if the opponent yields
Or does there have to be blood on the field
