Prostate Blues

I know Prostate cancer has caused death and suffering for many. But as a man faced with that possibility, and numerous biopsies to monitor the condition, I felt like I needed to handle it with black humor.
Woke up this morning about five or six times
between one AM and 5:59
Now you might wonder what come over me
Is it the blues or too much TV
It ain’t a broken heart or water on the knee
It’s another part of my anatomy
I got the Prostate Blues
I got the Prostate Blues

Went to the doctor the other day
Wanted to know what he had to say
He checked my eyes and how much I weigh
As soon as he checked on whether I could pay
Then just as I thought that I might get away
He said we’d better check the old PSA
I got the Prostate Blues
I got the Prostate Blues

The Doc said you know you’re getting old
That’s one of the worst things that I’ve been told.
Biopsies, blood draws and digital exams
That’s the trouble with being born a man
Born with a birth defect called testosterone
Symptoms don’t appear until near the end zone.
I got the Prostate Blues
I got the Prostate Blues

People round me are dropping like flies
As soon as I turned about 55
I’ve never seen so many men
having cosmetic surgery on their rear end
I guess it’s a sign of maturity
And I’m lucky that I can be
One with the Prostate Blues
I got the Prostate Blues
